Introduction to my portfolio

As our world so rapidly develops new medicine, a problem also develops with it. This problem is antibiotic resistance. I worked independently on compiling a portfolio to fulfill academic requirements for an upper level science writing class at North Dakota State University. Along with meeting these requirements, the final report aims to educate the public about today’s most dangerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria. My report, along with the efforts of my fellow students and their respective projects, will be made available to the public through the internet. The portfolio contains a proposal, article review, annotated bibliography, progress report, two reading responses, and a final project that consists of a research report. The works in this portfolio are diverse and have helped me to develop my voice as a scientific writer.

Documents in my portfolio

Proposal: The proposal outlines my final project plan. The proposal was written with the goal of the project being accepted and included in the class’ educational website. I proposed to conduct a literature review and interview in regards to today’s most dangerous antibiotics.

Article review: The next piece of material included is an article review. This review is an in depth report on an article that provided background for my final project.

Annotated bibliography: I compiled an annotated bibliography containing 10 sources to help organize my thoughts and sources. By compiling this bibliography, I had a large base of knowledge before starting the final project. The annotations made it simple to find the main points of each source.

Progress report: The progress report was to written to inform my fellow classmates and professor of the work I had accomplished, and the work yet to be done. My progress is specifically laid out, and a schedule for the work I had remaining was outlined.

Reading response 1: The two reading responses were written during the course of completing my final project. They are responses to chapters in the text, Paradox: How the Misuse of Antibiotics Destroys Their Curative Powers, by Stuart Levy.

Reading response 2

Final project: The final project consists of a compiled report on today’s most dangerous bacteria based on multiple sources. A specific study is examined to help support the claims the report makes. Before concluding, the report also includes an interview that was conducted via e-mail with a current nurse practitioner student at North Dakota State University.

Composing this diverse portfolio gave me the opportunity to utilize and improve on many genres of writing. This portfolio is an accurate representation of the brainstorming, critical thinking, research and writing that I accomplished through this course.
