Subject: Dangerous Antibiotic Resistance in Hospitals

Introduction

My project is a research project regarding the most dangerous antibiotic resistant bacteria that our reckless use of antibiotics has produced in hospitals. It will include background information, future outlook, and pictures of the top three bacteria. Also, the final report will include an interview with a current nurse practitioner student. The purpose of this interview is to get an idea of the future outlook by examining what schools are doing through education to reduce the misuse of antibiotics. The overall goal of my project is to educate the public about the damage we have already caused, in hopes to inspire future changes.

Work Completed

I submitted my proposal on September 27, which outlined my plans and goals of the final project. Once my proposal was accepted, I submitted my first article review on October 24, 2010. The article was a brief, but detailed, background and history of antibiotics. It has served as a valuable resource in finding other relevant articles, and also as a good background base. The information in this article will be included in the final report. I then continued researching and compiled an annotated bibliography. I chose articles that I felt represented the issue as a whole, and that will provide a solid understanding of the message I am trying to convey. These resources, along with the interview that is scheduled to take place on November 16, will all be compile an educational report.

Work Scheduled

I am currently outlining and framing my final report. I plan to finish the final outline by November 16, and will then begin to write my first rough draft. I will have the first rough draft complete and ready to submit by November 24. After the draft is submitted and reviewed by my English 324 peers, I will take the revisions into consideration and make the necessary changes. By December 3rd, I will have made the necessary revisions and have a final draft ready for submission. Once the final draft is submitted, I will finish up my project by putting together a portfolio of the work I accomplished. The portfolio will be submitted by December 13th.

Conclusion

To this point, I am on track and have met the deadlines that were set forth. The quality of the sources I found give me confidence that i will be able to stay on track with finishing the draft on time. This also means I will meet the final deadline, and contribute to the class website. My final report will provide the general public, through our website, with an educational resource that will hopeful change the way they think about the use of antibiotics.
